Surfing Inch Reef: Surf Spot Guide

Inch Reef can roll out very long rights that travel hundreds of metres. Said to be one of Ireland’s best waves when it’s going off. The point break-like takeoff zones can get very busy when it’s good. There’s a notoriously strong rip that pulls you away from the line up, especially when it’s big. As it’s a reef, it’s not suitable for beginners. Getting in and out on the rocks can be tricky too. Inexperienced surfers are better off trying Inch Beach, where surfing lessons and other amenities are available.

Inch Reef - What Waves, When

Low and mid tide are best. It needs a south west groundswell to get going and a light north easterly wind will be offshore. It produces really long, point break-like rights when it’s on, and there’s plenty of shoulder to play on.

Inch Reef – Out of the Water

Surf lessons and hire are available at Inch Beach. There’s a shop, bar & restaurant there too.

Dingle is the town to go to if you’d like a wider choice of surf equipment and other amenities.

Camping, holiday cottages and guesthouses are your main choices for accommodation, with some situated very close to the beach. There’s more choice the further you’re willing to travel.

Kerry is a beautiful county and the Dingle peninsular is home to breathtaking views, so walking and exploring is a must. There’s fishing and other non-surf water sports on offer in the area too.
